Retail center to get remodeling The Village Glen Plaza in Thousand Oaks is undergoing a major makeover. The 70,000squarefoot shopping center on Village Glen Road between Townsgate and Agoura roads will strive for a new "lifestyle" image with upscale shops, spas and restaurants, a spokesperson for Westcord Commercial Real Estate Services said. Although in the city of Thousand Oaks, the center will be renamed The Village at Westlake. "The Village of Westlake will allow shoppers and diners to experience village intimacy with city style," said Marilyn Kidd, a Westcord retail specialist. The center will convert 10,000 square feet of existing groundfloor space into new, high exposure retail space, Kidd said. "A refreshingly different trend is that there is high demand for retail store front space that isn't big-box anchored," Kidd said. "I'm getting calls every day from stores on Melrose, in Studio City, Santa Monica and Malibu that want to be along this part of the 101 corridor," she said. The shopping center remodel includes the installation of new signage and floor-to-ceiling retail glass store fronts, the renovation of existing landscaping and patios, and the addition of a new patio at the corner of Townsgate Road and Village Glen Road. A new stucco façade will front Townsgate Road. Walkways throughout the center will have piped music and common area seating. Westcord says it has almost a dozen new tenants under contract, which brings the ground floor space to 100 percent occupancy. New retailers include Traditions, Halo, 9026eyes, plus a cigar store, clothing stores and a tanning and skin rejuvenation and a fitness center. Second-floor space will be renovated during phase II of the rebranding. The center currently has 500,000 square feet of office space within walking distance, which will double with the completion of the 471,000square-foot Park Place office park nearby. |
