Endorsement is under question

Fred Gaines appears to be blissfully ignorant of the fact that the express purpose of Spotlight the Arts, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to bringing a performing arts venue here by raising necessary funds through private means, not city money.

Also, the backslapping endorsement in The Acorn of candidates Washburn and Groveman by sitting Councilpersons Wolfson and Maurer conspicuously smacks of cronyism. Since when do elected public servants mount the hustings of this forum to endorse fellow elected servants under the guise of the First Amendment? Shame on you.

This writer formed a legal team of one, pro bono, at the suggestion of candidate Keeler, to defeat Measure C. This effort was supported by citizens, environmental organizations, homeowners associations and public officials, not including City Council members. The resounding defeat of Measure C at both the trial court level, Boudreau v. Hubbard, and by vote of the residents of this community, came about in part and was influenced by the support of Toby Keeler.

The citizens of Calabasas are urged to vote and have their voices heard by electing candidate Keeler to the Calabasas City Council.
