. . . And another thing about Shea Homes

I chuckled when I read the letters in last week's Acorn from the Calabasas "environmental community" praising the deeds of candidate Toby Keeler. While Mr. Keeler served on the planning commission twice, it should be noted that he was not reappointed by two different councils when he applied. Why?

Mr. Keeler is great on accusations, such as saying the City Council is responsible for the Shea Homes on Las Virgenes Road, when in fact it was his vote while on the planning commission that moved the project forward.

Back a number of years ago when Mr. Keeler ran against me for the City Council, the accusation was that I and the council approved overdeveloped projects when in fact these projects were approve by the county prior to incorporation and thus inherited by the new city. Mr. Keeler's mailing--"The Color of Money" list of donors to Mr. Groveman's campaign--should be a concern to all of us. However, after reviewing the list I find it doubtful at best that any of them would have future business before the city.

Dennis Washburn is the engine behind more than 30 years of what Calabasas is today. His enthusiasm, foresight and tenacity have created one of the foremost cities not only in Los Angeles County but in the state of California as well. Barry Groveman moved quickly to transform the way city hall operates, especially regarding the finances of the city. We owe these two gentlemen a debt of gratitude. I ask you to join me in voting for them in the next week's election.
