Oversight committee seeks help

The Las Virgenes Unified School District's board of education needs volunteers to work on the districtwide Measure E Oversight Committee.

Measure E is the $98 per year parcel tax initiative passed by voters in March 2004.

The special assessment has paid for a variety of improvements and programs, including reduced class sizes, athletics, college and career centers, elementary school reading specialists, fourth- and fifth-grade science, and library and counseling services for all grades.

The district collects $1.9 million each year through Measure E. The oversight committee is responsible for monitoring allocation and use of the funds.

Donald Zimring, district deputy superintendent, said there are two vacancies on the sevenmember committee.

Anyone who is interested in joining the oversight committee should submit a letter of interest to the school district detailing their background and qualifications.

The letter should be mailed to the attention of Zimring at the Las Virgenes Unified School District office, 4111 N. Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas, CA 91302.

Letters also may be faxed to the district office at (818) 880-4200. The deadline is Fri.,
March 9.
