Girl Scouts to celebrate World Thinking Day

Girl Scouts across the San Fernando Valley plan to celebrate World Thinking Day today, Feb. 22 by participating in various activities, games and projects with global themes. The annual event gives girls a chance to learn about other countries and honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 144 countries.

Girls often spend weeks researching the culture, music, food and history of different countries to prepare for today's festivities.

"It's a fun, educational way to learn about other countries, foster international friendships and remind girls that Girls

Scouts USA is part of a global community," said Gerry L. Keshka, CEO of Girls Scouts of the San Fernando Valley.

This year, World Thinking Day activities will focus on the Czech Republic, Lebanon, Mexico, Rwanda and Sri Lanka, which represent the five regions of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.

World Thinking Day is held each year on Feb. 22, the birthday of Lord BadenPowell, founder of Boy Scouts, and his wife, Lady Baden-Powell, one of the first World Chief Guides.
