Boys & Girls Club receives donation The Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley has received a $21,525 donation through Macy's Department stores' Thanks for Sharing Campaign. Macy's customers and employees raised more than $10 million for the American Heart Association, America's Second Harvest, The United Way and the Boys & Girls Clubs. Locally, funds from the Thanks for Sharing Campaign were distributed through Macy's Northridge, Topanga and Promenade locations. Macy's has contributed to the club for five years, according to Gary Thomas, chairman of the board of the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley. "These funds will allow us to continue to serve the needs of underprivileged youth in the West Valley. We are very grateful to the members of the Macy's organization for their generosity and spirit of benevolence," said Thomas. The Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley was founded in 1995 to provide safe, healthy, productive activities for youth during nonschool hours. Two years ago, the club moved into a facility in Canoga Park, where major renovations are being planned. There are more than 1,500 members of the club, and approximately 100 youngsters visit the facility each day, in addition to afterschool activities at Blythe Elementary School provided to approximately 150 children. |
