Ditch the SUVs and stop the war

As our community mourns the loss of a local hero killed in action in Iraq, it's time to take a reality check. If it wasn't clear before it certainly is clear now. Iraq is a war for oil and profit. Every gas-guzzling SUV that is still on the road is fueling the incentive for Bush and his buddies in big oil and big business to keep the war in chaos. America's lust for oil is killing our brave soldiers, and the SUV is the poster child for the disengagement from this reality.

Show some real support for our soldiers and help bring them home alive and in one piece. Take your SUV with its yellow ribbon and trash it. Push it off a cliff so it can never swallow another gallon of gas.

Don't stop there. Become engaged and tell your elected officials that we want out of Iraq. Tell your friends to do the same.

The absolute least that we can do for those who vowed to risk life and limb for their country, right or wrong, is to speak out for their safe return. Without action, a yellow ribbon bumper sticker on the hind end of a car means nothing.

Pay attention, speak out and live responsibly. The life of a soldier you know may depend on it.
