Maritime Museum to host anniversary party
All events are free and open to public

The Ventura County Maritime Museum will celebrate its 16th anniversary with a weekend celebration on Presidents' Weekend, Feb. 17 through 19, in the museum's courtyard. The museum open house and all activities will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. All events are free and open to the public.

Activities include knot tying, whale drawing and free children's crafts. Tall ship and marine life videos will run continuously in the museum's Discovery Room.

The Maritime Museum Ship Model Guild will demonstrate wooden ship modeling techniques, including putting a ship in a bottle.

Sergio Aragones, MAD magazine cartoonist and 1997 International Cartoonist of the Year, will conduct cartoon drawing classes for young adults Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

Channel Island Carvers woodcarving club and the Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary will host exhibits.

The Maritime Museum is at the corner of South Victoria and Channel Islands Blvd. in Fisherman's Wharf, Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. For information, call (805) 984-6260.
