Viewpoint soccer teams lock down Liberty League titles

The varsity soccer teams at Viewpoint School reign supreme in the Liberty League.

Behind a rock-solid defense that's allowed only eight goals, the Patriot boys' squad entered yesterday's match vs. Providence with a 9-0-2 league record. They were 13-1-6 overall.

Viewpoint's boys have been dominant since the calendar changed to 2007. Entering Wednesday's game, the team hadn't allowed a goal since Jan. 3. They had eight shutouts over that span.

The boys' success has been matched by the girls' squad, who completes its regularseason schedule Friday against Buckley.

With an 11-0 Liberty League mark, the Lady Patriots have long since wrapped up a league championship. They are 15-3-3 overall and haven't lost since Jan. 6 at St. Bonaventure.

Head coach Travis Kikugawa said it's been the most successful soccer season in school history.

"The whole program has really exploded this year," Kikugawa said. "It's been unbelievable."

In the latest CIF-Southern Section Division VI coaches' polls, both teams were ranked No. 3 in their respective divisions.

Playoff pairings are slated to be released Monday afternoon.
