Child's play at Pepperdine

"If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," a play based on Laura Numeroff's picture book of the same title, will be presented at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sat., Feb. 17 at Pepperdine University's Smothers Theatre, 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu.

The play, presented by the Omaha Theatre Company, "is a tribute to vaudeville in that it uses the same physical, slapstick comedy," said playwright Jody Davidson, who adapted the book to the stage in 1992.

In the show, one thing leads to another as a young boy runs in circles trying to meet the demands of a bossy mouse. Giantsized specialty props and a "splitstage" design allow for the illusion of two co-existing worlds of different sizes, one from a little boy's perspective and one from the pointof-view of a mouse.
