Writer speaks on writing

Mary Embree will be the guest speaker at the Ventura County Writers Club meeting, 7 p.m. Tues., Feb. 13 at Borders Books, 125 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The public is invited.

Embree, a resident of Ventura, has written "The Author's Toolkit: a Step-by-Step Guide to Writing and Publishing Your Book." She founded the Small Publishers, Artists and Writers Network in 1996.

As the founder and executive director of the Literary Arts Society of Ventura County, Embree produces the annual Ventura Book Festival and the Young Authors and Artists Project, which conducts ongoing writing programs for young people. She is also the creator of the word quiz "Word Wise" and is working on a new book titled "The Birds and Bees of Words," scheduled for publication in September.
