Brownley active in Assembly

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez recently announced his 2007-08 appointments to various legislative committees, and local representative Julia Brownley (DSanta Monica) plays a prominent role.

Following Nunez's earlier selection of the freshman Assembly member to chair a budget subcommittee on education finance, Brownley has been appointed to committees on aging, long-term care and a subcommittee on resources, education and natural resources.

"I couldn't be more thrilled or honored by the speaker to have the opportunity to serve on these committees," said Brownley, the 41st Assembly District member who was elected last November. Her district includes Hidden Hills, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village.

"These issues have been my passion and led me to run for the Assembly," Brownley said. "The budget subcommittees on education and resources give me the chance to be hands-on with the governor's budget proposals for these two critical issues, item by item, line by line, and working to make the investments that are needed for the longer term. The committee on aging will be dealing with how California meets the challenges of a population that is living longer."

Assembly policy and budget committees will be meeting over the next several months. The state budget bill must by passed by the Legislature by midnight on June 15.
