Rhodes' comedy to play in L.A. "Ug," a comedy written by the late Rick Rhodes, his wife, Vivian, and Jim Goeghan, is playing at the Attic Theatre in Los Angeles through Feb. 28. Rhodes was one of the cofounders of the Oak Park High School theater program and also helped to launch the Santa Susana Repertory Company and the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival in Thousand Oaks. For 30 years Rhodes composed music for television and film, winning five Emmys for his work. Parents and students of OPHS have started a movement to name the newly built theater building after Rhodes. "Ug" is a prehistoric caveman worried about his legacy. When his tribe asks him to tell them once again about his story of a near-fatal boar hunt, Ug acts it out instead, thus creating the first play and the backstage trauma that goes with theater. Critic Jose Ruiz of www.reviewplays.com said, "Playwright Jim Geoghan throws every theatre cliche into this two-hour Stone Age howler, generously wrapped around some great music by the late Rick Rhodes, rife with double entendres and populated with actors with a gift for the zany." The Attic Theatre is at 5429 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles. For more information or reservations, call (323) 5250600, ext. 2. | |||||
