'Dooley's America' in Malibu

"Mr. Dooley's America," a turn-of-the-century comedy of sociopolitical satire, comes to the Malibu Stage Company direct from New York, where the play received rave reviews.

Written by the late Malibu screenwriter Philip Dunne and Martin Blain, the two-character play is set in a Chicago pub, owned by a character based on the Chicago Evening Post columns of Finley Peter Dunne, a famed political satirist of his day.

The characters are concerned about illegal immigration, race relations, the deterioration of the English language, the hopelessness of social reform and profane kindergarten students.

The show runs from Feb. 9 through March 4. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25.

A special champagne reception honoring Dunne is planned for Sat., Feb. 10 following the performance. Tickets for this fundraiser are $100.

The theater is at 29243 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu. For more information or tickets, call (310) 589-1998.
