Wrong delivery It is sad that so many of the people who live in the Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Agoura area are unaware of a town that has existed here for well over 70 years. I am referring to Cornell. Your cover story "On the road with 'American Chopper,'" Jan. 18, which talks about the Rock Store, claims that the landmark "hangout" is in rural Agoura. Wrong. The Rock Store is in Cornell, as is Paramount Ranch, Peter Strauss Ranch, Malibou Lake, Seminole Springs Mobile Home Park, the Old Place and everything south of Cornell Road, including the Cornell Fire Station. Ask Rock Store owners, Ed and Vern, where they've lived for decades. Cornell still exists and has never been Agoura. Check out the Thomas Guide from any year. When Agoura Hills incorporated in 1988, Agoura was no longer on the Cornell Road side of the freeway. Old Agoura is now only on the north side of the 101. In 1967, the Cornell Post Office (now the Old Place), across from Lake Encanto (now the National Park Service's Peter Strauss Ranch), was closed, and post office services were moved to the Agoura Post Office. Since there were few residents living in Cornell at the time, the area was thought to have become Agoura. Nothing could be further from the truth. Look up the ZIP code cities for our area on the www.usps.com website. 91301 is Agoura Hills, but it is also Cornell. Cornell has not gone away, but the people who live here have mistakenly thought it has.
I encourage The Acorn and
the residents of our area to recognize one of our oldest towns. If you live in
Cornell, be proud and use Cornell, 91301. | |||||
