South African group to perform

Ladysmith Black Mambazo will perform at 8 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 1 at Pepperdine University's Smothers Theatre, 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu.

The eight-member a cappella group from South Africa has been performing since the 1960s. They performed on Paul Simon's 1986 "Graceland" and have recorded with many artists, as well as recording more than 40 albums of their own.

A documentary about the group, "On Tiptoe: Gentle Steps to Freedom," was nominated for both an Oscar and an Emmy. Their most recent CD, "Long Walk to Freedom," has received two Grammy nominations.
