Relay For Life rally scheduled at Agoura High Agoura High School will host a community rally on Jan. 17 to kick off its upcoming Relay for Life spring fundraising event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The public is invited to attend the rally at 6 p.m. in the high school's Building G. According to Jennifer Cohen, manager of community development for the American Cancer Society, the public will be treated to dinner, games and prizes. Agoura Hills Mayor Dan Kuperberg is expected to issue a challenge to neighboring cities to form city teams and compete with each other at the spring event which raises funds for cancer research, education and patient services. Principal Larry Misel and Woodrow Brokenburr, chair of the American Cancer Society's operations group, will also address the rally. One in three Americans will at some point face a cancer diagnosis, according to studies. This sobering statistic is the impetus behind the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, a 24-hour walk around the campus track to be hosted April 28 and 29 by Agoura High School. Forty teams of about 10 people each are expected to participate in the fifth annual walkathon. Last year the teams raised $92,000. Organizers hope to meet or beat last year's sum.
