Ball honors young volunteers
Group assists Childrens Hospital

STEPPING OUT- Kimberly Ann Alsabery of Agoura Hills is one of the debutantes honored at the Las Madrinas Ball at the Beverly Hilton Hotel recently. Alsabery and 31 other debs were recognized for their charitable work benefiting Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
Thirty families and their daughters were honored at the annual Las Madrinas Ball on Dec. 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Nearly 800 guests from the greater Los Angeles area and beyond, including 32 debutantes, their parents and grandparents, gathered to recognize the families and their commitments to the community and to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Among the debutantes was Kimberly Ann Alsabery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zane Roger Alsabery of Agoura Hills

At the ball, Las Madrinas president Vicky Rogers welcomed guests and expressed her gratitude for their support of Childrens Hospital. The presentation of the debutantes was announced by Gary William Hampar, whose wife Kathy is a past president of Las Madrinas. Royce Edrice Wilson (Leslie) served as debutante chairman. David Balfour of Balfour Photography acted as director of presentation.

During the presentation, each debutante entered the stage, carrying a bouquet of roses, before descending the stairs to be escorted by her father around the dance floor and making the customary deep curtsy.

Las Madrinas, "The Godmothers," was founded in 1933 to give financial support to Childrens Hospital. Donations to Las Madrinas support the hospital and its medical research programs.

Since 1988, Las Madrinas has completed six endowments and is now funding a new research project, the $3 million Las Madrinas Endowment for Cardiovascular Research. The endowment will support the efforts of Dr. Ivan Vesely, who directs the Cardiovascular Research Program within The Saban Research Institute of Childrens Hospital, and will fund a family lounge within the Heart Institute on the second floor of the new hospital building.
