Donations needed to help launch new YMCA The Miller Family YMCA, which will open in March in the Dos Vientos neighborhood of Newbury Park, is seeking donated preschool toys and play equipment. “Families who have outgrown their preschool years and want a tax donation should consider donating toys and play equipment to the YMCA,” said John Rutherford, president of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. Rutherford said the donations will enable funds earmarked for preschool purchases to be used for other needed items at the building. Rutherford said the YMCA has already received donations from Arlen and Tony Miller, the city of Thousand Oaks, Standard Pacific, Weingart Foundation and hundreds of local businesses and community members. “These donations also permit the Y to include families who would like to participate in Y activities but can't afford the cost,” Rutherford said. The YMCA hopes to provide scholarships to families in need. For more information about the Miller Family YMCA, call (805) 523-7613. After Jan. 13, call (805) 480-0309. |
