No water, no new development

Your editorial last week was filled with many helpful ideas to conserve water in Southern California except for one glaring omission. I cannot understand why you would not demand that our leaders do not immediately put a moratorium on the construction of new homes and commercial properties.

It is insane that we are in the midst of an acute water shortage and we do not require the contractors to prove that they will have an adequate, guaranteed water supply for their projects.

For instance, the Las Lomas development of 5,500 homes in the Santa Clarita area wants to be annexed into Los Angeles City without a clear plan for water because the Santa Clarita original zoning was for 200 homes.

We must all wake up and fight against any unbridled development without sensible planning. Ray Kirschbaum Westlake Village
