Animal shelter comes through in recent fire crisis
      Responding to June Slayton, who took issue with the way the Agoura Shelter and L.A. County Animal Control Center handled the Malibu fire, I submit the following: The day the fire started, LACACC employees and volunteers worked around the clock and were available to help with intakes.

Protect small pets from coyotes
      I am writing in response to the letter from the woman who lost her dog to a coyote last week. I know the loss of a pet can be devastating to a family, and this letter certainly does not mean to take away from the hurt of that loss, but I felt that she unfairly put the blame on Animal Control and the wildlife.

Rescuing pets is certainly not cheap
      This is in response to the woman asking for donations for vet bills incurred when she took in a neighbor's dog. I have the impression that she feels since she took this poor dog in, she should get help paying the bills. Please let me know where I can get on the bandwagon.

      We have heard many arguments, both pro and con, with respect to the Heschel West Day School's application for a conditional use permit.       Recently, the city of Belmont, Calif., passed a landmark ordinance regulating secondhand smoke inside most apartments and condominiums.

'No' to Kanan roundabout
      The current Kanan-Agoura Road intersection is far too small to accommodate a two-lane roundabout. Whether the roundabout will improve traffic flow is questionable. True, drivers may be forced to reduce speed but, as experienced circle drivers know, this depends on traffic within the circle, and I've seen drivers accelerate on entering one to beat the flow.
