Agoura Hills wants more environmental awareness
      Plans are underway to establish a committee for "environmental responsibility" in the city of Agoura Hills, according to Mayor Dan Kuperberg. Simple steps could reap big rewards, Kuperberg said. For example, switching out regular light bulbs for "greener" varieties would conserve energy and save the city money in the long run.

Housing data continue downward slide
      The pace of new home sales remained sluggish in September, the California Building Industry Association reported last week. The monthly CBIA/Hanley Wood Market Intelligence New Home Sales and Pricing Report showed that new home sales in September were 45 percent below the same month a year ago.

Calling system protects city
      Calabasas' emergency preparedness plan has been expanded to include a calling system that will notify residents with important messages. City officials say they want to be sure that Calabasas residents get the information they need if disaster strikes.

Brownley says state budget outlook grim
      Financially speaking, the next couple of years aren't going to be easy in California. That was the message gathered from Assemblymember Julia Brownley's recent talk with members of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce. "It's hard to know what the next year is going to look like," said Brownley (D-Woodland Hills).

      A Republican group called Voters for the Constitution will meet locally at 7 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 5 to discuss the current slate of presidential candidates. "Our group supports candidates who back Constitutional principles and promote peace, freedom and prosperity," said Woody Holmes, the group's organizer.

      As part of its yearlong 30th anniversary celebration, Hospice of the Conejo recently honored the city of Westlake Village for its sustained financial support of the nonprofit organization. LVUSD teacher's aide, guide dog make a good team
      Calabasas resident Robin Schneider, a visually impaired teacher's aide with the Las Virgenes Unified School District, has been paired with a guide dog named Evita. Schneider and the dog, a black Labrador retriever, completed a month of intensive training at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael.
