Trick or treaters flock to Hempstead

Thank you for your Oct. 25 article on "Haunted Hempstead;" however, if the amount of trickor-treaters gets any bigger we might call on reporter Stephanie Bertholdo to bring us extra candy.

Our extended family, good friends and surrounding neighbors have been having a special time for many years on Halloween. Yes, we do lean toward the spooky and sometimes scary side, but we take care not to frighten the little ones as they are a very big part of the fun. Last year's pirate ship was a big hit, as was a "Battle of Gettysburg" theme several years ago.

As Dina said, the camaraderie on the block and the families who bring their kids around each year to visit, and often take pictures, make it a most enjoyable and entertaining time. Several new families have moved onto the street during last few years and, after getting over the initial shock, have joined right in.

We have been fortunate that the crowds enjoy themselves, and accidents and incidents have been minor and few. Visits during the evening by the sheriff's patrols (sometimes on horseback) and occasionally by the fire department have been greatly appreciated.

Halloween should be a fun time for all, and we have certainly enjoyed the spectacle and hope it continues. David T. Parker Agoura Hills
