More heat for Heschel West
I went to the library to see for myself the plans for the Heschel School. I could not believe what I saw on the plans for ingress and egress. The Heschel School has an easement between the gas station and the property on the corner of Chesebro and Driver. That is the in and out access to the Heschel school. There is a fire exit on Chesebro.

No room for another school
We recently moved to Old Agoura because it is one of the last small communities left that embraces a rural way of life. Friendly neighbors, the smell of horses, open countryside are all things that should be desired before moving here.

Wants open door discussion on Heschel West
Ian Taras asks some broadbased questions and states some supposed facts that are pure fabrication or more likely wishful thinking.

Why build a school in a fire area?
The fires that attacked all of Southern California should have a strong impact one more time on all of our lives. Are we prepared to evacuate quickly? Do we know what to take from our houses? Is there a meeting point for families? Is there a prepared list with all items to take?

Missed cues cost animals' lives
When the Malibu fire broke out, I called Los Angeles County Animal Control to offer the use of my Old Agoura property to evacuate any horses or livestock. I got stuck in a voicemail system that asked me to input my ZIP code, then kept saying that 91301 was an "invalid number.

Wants a 'no-kill' animal shelter
Los Angeles County Animal Control announced in The Acorn their campaign for October as Adopt-a-Dog Month. If LACAC was doing their job under state laws to promote adoptions rather than kill homeless animals, then every day would be Adopt a Companion Animal Day at all six LACAC shelters.

Folks at Agoura pet hospital 'truly care'
I wanted to commend Agoura Hills Animal Hospital for their wonderful kindness last week. I have a cat that is seriously ill with a rare disease, and I couldn't get him to eat.

Thanks for helping fire victims
I would like to thank our local community for supporting Red Cross by donating funds to help the Southern California fire victims. In addition I would like to thank the Peterson family for donating calendars to this cause as well as the club members that participated in this event in the last two weekends. We were able to raise $2,400.

And a thank you to Mel Adams, too
On Sun., Oct. 14, the Agoura Valley Woman's Club had the wonderful opportunity to do their second annual pancake breakfast for Reyes Adobe Days. We were fortunate again to be able to borrow the grills, propane tanks, tables, tubs, coolers, coffee makers, utensils and ice from Mel Adams of Agoura Equipment Rentals.

Kids FACE, We Care are cool clubs
Thanks for Stephanie Bertholdo's article about the Willow Elementary club, Kids For a Clean Environment (Kids FACE). I was in Kids FACE during fourth and fifth grade and had a lot of fun listening to lunchtime speakers talk about interesting environmental projects.

Traffic troubles at Kanan/101
From the beginning, we were told that the objectives of the Kanan interchange improvement were twofold: to provide for better traffic flow and to improve safety. In my opinion, neither of these has been satisfied.

This reader avoids Kanan/101
I wholeheartedly agree with Ellie Beck and her comment about the confusing Canwood Street signs on Kanan Road. I avoid the intersection of Route 101 and Kanan Road if at all possible. However, I recently had to visit Homewood Suites on Canwood. I phoned ahead to ask how to approach it from the eastbound offramp of the 101 Freeway.

Oak Park MAC, decisions by a few
First of all let me explain that I am in favor of community action groups. I do not have the patience, mediation skills nor the tolerance required to objectively listen to the constant bombardment from "the few" community whiners that habitually descend upon these public committee meetings as if they are a 12-step

Is Countrywide outsourcing jobs?
I felt compelled to write this letter to urge others to boycott the outsourcing of jobs, especially from Countrywide. How could America let 12,000 employees go and then outsource their jobs to India? I have mortgages with Countrywide and have received over eight phone calls in the last two weeks from agents in India wanting to sell me their latest product.

Trick or treaters flock to Hempstead
Thank you for your Oct. 25 article on "Haunted Hempstead;" however, if the amount of trickor-treaters gets any bigger we might call on reporter Stephanie Bertholdo to bring us extra candy. Our extended family, good friends and surrounding neighbors have been having a special time for many years on Halloween.

Building mars scenic area
For 13 years I have lived along the Mulholland Scenic Corridor, a two-lane blacktop that travels through some of the grandest scenery in the Santa Monica Mountains. One Mulholland vista is now blighted by a massive structure at the highway's junction with Sierra Creek Road, rumored to be a house of worship but being built along the lines of the Mall of America.

Students mutiny healthy food
Oak Park students are definitely noticing the change in their cafeteria menu. Because everything is healthier, it does not mean that it tastes better. Today, my elementary school boys came home and told me that they don't want to take another bite of any of the cafeteria food. The only thing they will eat now is the pizza.
