Kuperberg, Edelston reelected in Agoura
John Edelston Voters on Tuesday returned incumbents Dan Kuperberg and John Edelston to the Agoura Hills City Council.
Kuperberg captured 1,409 votes (35 percent), followed by Edelston with 1,371 votes (34 percent).
Challengers Michael Forney and George Christopher Thomas garnered 619 and 599 votes respectively, or about 15 percent each.
Thomas, 30, has run unsuccessfully for city council four times, starting in 2001. Forney unsuccessfully ran for office 10 years ago.
Kuperberg, a Los Angeles County public defender, is currently serving as mayor of the city. Edelston is slated to become mayor in 2008.
"I look forward to four more years keeping Agoura Hills a great place to live," Kuperberg said. "I think the voters of Agoura Hills reaffirmed that the city is moving in the right direction, and are concerned about open space, the environment, building coalitions, and strong leadership."
Edelston, president of a health care organization, was also thrilled to be reelected.
"I'm looking forward to a lot of activity happening in the city," Edelston said. "As always, I'm committed to being accessible and responsive to questioning and ideas. There's a lot to do."
During his first term, Edelston reinvigorated the Agoura Hills Community Emergency Response Team, supported open space initiatives, and utilized his financial expertise to help analyze budgets for city projects.
According to the Los Angeles County Registrar's Office, 3,998 out of 12,160 registered voters- almost 33 percent- cast ballots in the Agoura Hills election.
