Fluoride is safe
More than 60 years ago Grand Rapids, Mich. became the first American community to fluoridate its public source of water. Hundreds of subsequent scientific articles have determined that optimally fluoridated water is the single most effective public health measure to prevent dental decay.

Fluoride is toxic
Regarding the proposed plan to add fluoride to our water, I think it is important to understand what is being added. The studies which "proved" that fluoride would prevent cavities were evaluating the effects of actual groundwater minerals, not the chemicals that are being added today.

Apartments should be smoke-free
Apartment residents have no protection from their neighbor's drifting tobacco smoke. Unfortunately, tobacco smoke doesn't always stay in the unit where it is generated.

Smoking just isn't neighborly
No one should have to breathe a neighbor's secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke does drift from one apartment to another, with the apartment getting the offending smoke with no recourse to keep the air in their apartment clean and fit to breathe.

Stop picking on Heschel West
"You're killing me Larry!" (Brown) as the mattress commercial goes. If you could only turn your vitriolic prose for the purposes of good not evil. Can you not find anything in Agoura that makes you happy? Your Oct. 11 letter to the editor was so filled with double-speak and, as my kids would say, "big words," that it made no sense.

Kanan drivers, wait your turn
If you consider yourself a fantastic driver and the rest of the drivers on the road just sheep, you're going to want to skip this letter and go to the next one. Every morning I drive south on Kanan to catch the 101 east into the Valley. Every morning I line up in the lane set aside for the cars making the right turn on to eastbound ramp.

Kanan interchange, still confusing
I know that there has been a plethora of letters concerning the intersection of Kanan and the 101 freeway but the new Canwood Avenue signs are a menace. First of all there are four signs which is confusing enough. But the one just north of the freeway on the east side of Kanan seems to point to the freeway off ramp.

Don Zimring fits the bill
My children graduated from Calabasas High school long ago. Bud Marley was the superintendent then. Since his retirement, the district has chosen capable successors; however, in my opinion, none more qualified than Donald Zimring.

Finders, Davis great help on LVEF
It has been my privilege to volunteer in our school district over the past 10 years. First at Agoura High, and for the last few years, as a board member of the Las Virgenes Educational Foundation. During my LVEF years, it has been a pleasure to watch and work with School Board member, Terilyn Finders. Terilyn knows what LVUSD needs and makes it happen.

Another nod for Ned Davis
Westlake Village is at a critical time in its history. We need council members who have experience working financial and development issues in Westlake Village for Westlake Village home owners. Ned Davis has demonstrated that he has the experience and temperament to represent all of Westlake Village on the Council.

Philippa Klessig has proven herself
I love living in Westlake Village. I want to thank this and past City Councils for maintaining its beauty and community ambiance while being sensitive to the need for revenue to sustain the qualities that made me choose Westlake Village for my home.

Carol Kirschbaum stands out
After listening closely to the four candidates at the Oct. 11 Westlake Village City Council forum, I believe that one of them really stands out among the others: Carol Kirschbaum. Carol demonstrated her depth of knowledge about current and past issues which are critical to the citizens of Westlake Village.

Kirschbaum makes fiscal sense
The Westlake Village candidate who makes the most concrete points and actually backs them up with facts is Carol Kirschbaum. She's very detail-conscious. I like that. This gal's done her homework! I like the fact that she has investigated our voters' issues and shared valuable information. I like knowing the facts on all the developments here in Westlake.

Community Learning Center off to a great start
Our little school with a mighty vision, the Las Virgenes Community Learning Center, has many things in its favor, not the least of which is it's extraordinary and eclectic After School Enrichment Program. This inspired program is a paramount part of the overall mission for "the little school that could.
