Jewish Genealogical Society to discuss use of Mormon church research tools The Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley, Ventura County and surrounding areas will hold a general meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 14 at Temple Adat Elohim, 2420 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. The topic will be genealogy research using the resources of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints' Family History Centers. European Jewish records from the 19th century and earlier have been microfilmed by the church and are available through the centers. American documents- including census, draft registration, birth, marriage and death records- have been microfilmed. The centers also offer free online access to databases useful for family research. There are small centers in Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Ventura and other cities in the area as well as the large regional center in Los Angeles. Board members Debra Kay Blatt and Warren Blatt will lead the discussion. There is no charge to attend the meeting and anyone may join the society. Annual dues are $25 for an individual and $30 for a family. For more information, call Jan Meisels Allen at (818) 889-6616, e-mail publicity@jgscv.org or visit www.JGSCV.org. |
