Countrywide's exec hogging the funds
Countrywide's chief executive Angelo Mozilo is now taking decisive actions to ensure the company's future success. One action is the termination of 12,000 employees--with an average family around four- a real total of close to 48,000 people. Their financial lives- ironically, many of their mortgages- are now at risk.

The Acorn climbs to new heights
I really enjoyed the article "Fundraising conquers Mont Blanc." The Acorn editor, John Loesing, is very committed to making a difference in our community.

Where, oh where is that village?
Has someone lost a village? I keep on hearing that we have to find our village, that we need a village again, that we need to put village back in our city. I sure could use some help with this because I still see a village in Westlake Village, and it is one that is stronger and better than ever.

Have you looked around lately?
While reading The Acorn last week, I was stunned to see a letter which talked at great length about the beauty of Thousand Oaks, while bashing the look of our fair city. Kirschbaum's the voice of the people

Carol will fight for the village
Two seats are open on the Westlake Village City Council, giving residents the chance to inject vitally needed new blood into what seems to have become an entrenched group that is pro-development, any development, at any cost, whether it fits with the needs and desires of the majority of village residents or complies with the city's general or special plans.

Another nod for Kirschbaum
When I was president of Westlake Island Homeowners Association, Carol Kirschbaum served as chairperson of the Island Beautification Committee. She did an amazing job. Carol and Jim Pauly led in the design and development work on the entryway to the island and the impressive security office.

UCLA's hype doesn't compare to Los Robles' care
Any visitor to the UCLA Hospital is constantly reminded that their hospital ranks as "Best in West" or "No. 5 in the nation." Don't believe the hype. I've been a patient in these two hospitals, and, based on that experience, Los Robles is an infinitely superior facility. Let me elaborate.

Support your local sheriff
To the Agoura Hills woman and all others critical of our Sheriff's Department, saying they do "seemingly nothing," let's try to remember what these guys do every day. And if you need a reminder, they wake up each morning and strap on armor prepared to put themselves between the scum of the earth and us.

Fluoride, too much of a good thing
Water fluoridation has certainly been one of the public wonders of the last century, as Harvey Kern points out in response to the Sept. 20 article "Women protest fluoridated water.

Fluoridated water seen as dangerous
About a year ago, upon hearing of this draconian plan to introduce yet another highly toxic chemical besides chlorine into our water supply, namely fluoride, I wrote, as a professional health care practitioner,
