Local teams are looking good
     CHAMPS- The So Cal Diamonds traveling fast-pitch team won a major tournament in Riverside earlier this month. This year is the team's second season and their first tourney in the 16-and-under division. They rebounded from an opening loss to win five consecutive games to take the crown. In the front row, from left: Leah Bleichner, Shannon Kaufman, Kylie McNutt, Allie Martin and Jenna Blumenfeld. Middle row: Shayley Combe, Jennifer Hobbs and Zoey Powers. Standing in the back row: Danielle Ayler, coach Steve Jensen, Taylor Cobleigh, Sami Stark, head coach Steve Polk, Marisa Swartz, Kelsey Jensen, Maija Ehlinger and coach Brian Combe. Hailey Moore isn't in the picture. The girls are from Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Oxnard and Bakersfield.

Set, spike!
      HISTORIC WIN - For the first time in its history, Viewpoint School in Calabasas won the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Commissioner's Cup for its boys' athletic program in 2006-07. The school earned the honor through two Divisional Championships in volleyball and tennis, and second place finishes in soccer and baseball.

      NPHS (2-0) at Oak Park (2-0) Outlook: If Friday night belongs to Oaks Christian vs. St. Bonaventure, then Thursday night is all about Newbury Park facing off against Oak Park. Both teams' defenses have been firing on all cylinders early on. It's tough to give either squad an edge in this matchup.

Last week's top performers
      Oak Park offensive line: The OPHS offensive line flat out dominated Royal during the Eagles' 35-0 shutout victory in Week 2. Oak Park rushed for 374 yards on 44 carries (8.5 ypc.), with Kyle Shorten finding the end zone three times. The big boys in the trenches have been awesome.
