Westlake, Moorpark defenses: Behind stout defensive efforts, the Marmonte League's top two teams from a year ago both recorded shutouts in their season openers. Playing on the island of Oahu, the Warriors defeated Waipahu 210, while the Musketeers downed Mayfair, 12-0.

Chris Potter, QB, OCHS: The senior signal-caller threw for two scores and rushed for three others as Oaks Christian defeated Lompoc, 49-14. The Lions have won 47 consecutive games, a new CIF-Southern Section record.

Malcolm Jones, RB, OCHS: Jones, a junior, carried the ball 11 times for 148 yards and scored twice in the Lions' season opener.
