Ventura to host Hawaiian beach fest

The third annual Aloha Beach Festival will return to Ventura on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. along the Promenade from the Ventura pier down to "Surfer's Point."

Events include the C-Street Longboard Classic, K9 and World Beach Frisbee Freestyle Disc Championships, outrigger canoe race, Classic Paddle Board Challenge, food booths, display of fully-restored "Woody" automobiles and local artisans offering beach and island-style handmade gifts and artwork. The Aloha Stage will feature music and performances by local hula dancers.

A portion of the festival proceeds will benefit Peace Thru Music, the Kokua Hawai'i Foundation and a local grass-roots environmental nonprofit organization.

The C-Street Longboard Classic is open to amateur surfers of all ages. The event raises money for the CStreet Surfing Museum established to promote public education about the history, art, science and sport of surfing. For information go to www.cstreetlongboard.com.

Elsewhere in the city, the movie "Endless Summer" will be screened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Plaza Park in downtown Ventura. There is no charge.

Also on Saturday The Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Hotel will feature The Kristin Lee Trio playing on the new beachfront deck.
