      PUPPY LOVE- Carly Forgrave, a fourth-grade student at Lupin Hill Elementary School in Calabasas, has her hands full with six sheltie puppies. The all-female litter, born on July 11, is keeping the Forgrave family busy this summer.

More than 28,000 pets adopted last year
      The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care is now the largest animal adoption agency in the United States. The department placed 28,309 animals last year, an increase of more than 600 animals from the 2005-06 fiscal year.
