Public invited on water tour

Families invited to explore Malibu Lagoon
      Mountains Restoration Trust will sponsor a threehour family field trip starting at 9:30 a.m. Sat., Aug. 11 at Malibu Lagoon State Beach where Malibu Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. The trip is part of the trust's Youth Naturalist Program and focuses on the wonders of nature's wetlands, which contain more living species per acre than a rain forest.

In time of need, Chuckey the cat came through, again and again
      My precious cat, Mozart, had disappeared. I raised him from a handful to a frisky feline that was loaded with energy, playful and oh, so beautiful to look at. My waiting for Mozart to come home was to no avail. Hoping that some kind soul may have found him and turned him in at the local animal shelter, I also searched there, calling his name. No Mozart.

Agoura Hills presents summer fun for seniors
      The city of Agoura Hills Senior Recreation Program offers the following activities for seniors. •A four-day, three-night trip to Mesquite and Stateline will be from Tues., Sept. 25 to Fri., Sept. 28. All breakfasts and a lunch are included on the Utah guided tour. Fees are $255 for a single room and $235 per person for double occupancy.

Guests enjoy '50s fun at outdoor movie
     IRIS SMOOT/Acorn Newspapers THROUGH THE HOOPS- Kimberly Jones, 12, of Calabasas, hula hoops her heart out during a contest at Juan Baptiste de Anza Park in Calabasas before an outdoor screening of the movie, "Grease." Guests took part in other activities, including a remote control car race and a sock hop, while waiting for the film to begin. The movie was hosted by the city of Calabasas as part of its summer Movies Under the Stars series.

Hospice volunteers help others bravely face death
      World War II veteran Bob Dingman knows a lot about bravery. "In service in World War II, I saw brave men in combat. Working for hospice, I saw more bravery in the volunteers." The volunteers at Hospice of the Conejo have to reach inside themselves and find strength they didn't know was there, Dingman said.

Scouts receive Bronze Award
     ANIMALS' BEST FRIENDS- - Members of Troop No. 962 have earned the Bronze Award, the highest honor for Junior Girl Scouts. They helped the Agoura Animal Shelter by collecting 10 bags of pet food, towels, other supplies and Petco gift certificates to be used to purchase other items for the shelter. The girls prepared and distributed flyers to more than 80 homes in their neighborhood, asking for the donations. The Scouts are: Sarah Bence, Blaire Consales, Lauren Lim, Amanda Meyer, Saige Moloian, Robin Ossentjuk, Kayla Priske, Madison Weeks and Jordan Wood.

      Diane Johnson was 5 years old when her sun-gold 1957 Ford Thunderbird rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Mich. Eleven years later Johnson's father surprised her by giving her the classic automobile on her 16th birthday. The late model car- with white interior, V-8 engine and four-barrel carburetor that generated 245 horsepower- put Johnson into shock.
