Traffic light needed, indeed As a resident of the Mulwood area and frequent user of both the Headwaters intersection (Old Topanga and Mulholland) and Mulholland Highway, I agree with Mr. Keeler about the need for a traffic light at this intersection. I must use this intersection two to three times a day and often there are no more than two or three cars in this intersection. Another point Mr. Keeler did not mention is that the afternoon eastbound traffic on Mulholland Highway has increased 10-fold in the last few years. With a green light the eastbound traffic will be approaching the high school, which has a curve and a traffic light, at 45 mph plus. The present stop sign slows the traffic down from Mulholland Highway, which is for the most part 55 mph and is "supposed" to be 45 mph as you approach Headwaters. The stop sign also acts as a calming influence in the afternoon as you must wait for the afternoon traffic to go to proceed through the three-way stop. The stop sign also reduces the speed of vehicles as you approach the high school. As an avid cyclist I'm also concerned with the new greenbelts that are presently being built on Mulholland east of the high school. A reduced greenbelt area and larger bike lane would be much more useful. Besides making it more dangerous for cyclists, we are limiting emergency access to this area. Even though the Calabasas City Council may be more peaceful and civil towards each other, I often wonder about the direction they are heading. Brad Wolfe Calabasas |
