Calabasas offers variety of camps for children

The city of Calabasas will offer a variety of camps this summer.

•A basketball camp conducted by the USC basketball team and Henry Bibby and his coaching staff will be offered Monday through Friday the week of July 23. Basic skills will be taught. Instruction will be tailored to each individuals experience and skill level.

Children ages 5-9 will have camp from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A.E. Wright Middle School. The camp for youth ages 10 to 15 will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at A.C. Stelle Middle School.

The cost is $295 for the first child and $270 for each additional child from the same family.

•A pirate drawing camp for children ages 7 to 11 will run from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Mon., July 23 to Thurs., July 26. Students will learn to draw pirates, treasure maps, sunken treasure, parrots and a pirate ship. The fee is $75.

•A comedy and improvisation boot camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon Mon., July 30 to Fri., Aug. 3. Campers ages 7 to 11 will work on creating characters, performing physical comedy and making things believable for an audience.

There will be an informal show during the last hour of the last day of camp. The fee is $85 plus a $5 lab fee.

•A wizardry and literacy camp will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Mon. through Fri., July 30 to Aug. 3 for children ages 8 to 13. With the focus on reading and writing, campers will act out scenes from their reading, make wands and hats, write in journals and create and eat wizard food. The fee is $85.
