Public input taken on new Calabasas General Plan
City's character and environment are major concerns
      According to the results of a General Plan workshop held last month at the Agoura/Calabasas Community Center, Calabasas residents appear to be mostly in agreement about what's best for the future of the city. About 30 people took part in the planning session.

County draws the line against graffiti
      The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works wants to reduce summertime graffiti vandalism. With school out and the days longer, graffiti vandalism usually becomes more active. The department offers graffiti removal services to unincorporated areas throughout Los Angeles County.

United Women's Council exceeds their fundraising goal
      They did it. The United Women's Leadership Council has not only met their goal of raising $50,000 by the end of June but has exceeded it by $6,000, an official with the group said earlier this week. "It's very exciting," Vice President Amy Fonzo said of the $56,000 the group raised.

Oxnard Salsa Festival heats up in July

      The 14th annual Oxnard Salsa Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sat. and Sun., July 28 and 29 at Plaza Park, Fifth and "B" streets in downtown Oxnard. Festival admission and parking are free; no coolers or pets are permitted. A $4 admission fee to the salsa tasting tent includes tortilla chips and a variety of salsas to sample.

      At 1 p.m. Wed., July 18, the Malibu Book Discussion Group will feature a live reading of selections from the play, "The Children's Hour," by Lillian Hellman, with a discussion to follow. Readers Theater is providing actors for the meeting.

Oak Park man working toward F-15 fighter wings
      As a new pilot in the United States Air Force, Adam Bushore of Oak Park is living his dream. A 2005 graduate of the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., Bushore, 24, earned his fighter pilot wings in May and is now undergoing training and testing to become an F-15C fighter pilot.
