Swedish student experiences local life
      Many students can't wait for the day they'll hang up their backpacks for good, but for Hannah Kaufman, 17, school was something she couldn't get enough of. After graduating from high school in Sweden at 15 and attending a year of music college, Hannah decided to move to California for a year at an American high school.

      The Southern California Cable and Telecommunications Association Charitable Foundation has awarded $1,000 college scholarships each to three local students who are interested in pursuing careers in the cable and telecommunications industry.

Money Camp vows to teach campers how to be millionaires
      Want to be a millionaire by age 40? It's possible if you follow start young enough, said Money Camp coaches Judy Powell and Gayle Lipp. Powell and Lipp will teach children ages 10 to 15 practical savings and investment strategies in a handson program called Money Camp, which runs from June 25 through 29 at Freedom Park.

Kids hold impressive records
     PERFECT- Sumac Elementary School principal Karen Hansen presents students Brandon Kosikov and Cheyenne Moreau with certificates recognizing perfect attendance from Kindergarten through fifth grade. Brandon was also honored for never having been tardy. Both students also received the Presidents Education Award maintaining an A average in fourth and fifth grades.

Agoura High JV volleyball team has banner year
     CHAMPIONS- The Agoura High School junior varsity volleyball team celebrates its best year ever with 12 victories in 14 games. The team won second place in the Royal JV Volleyball Classic tournament in June. Team captain Ansel Rosenberg, third from right, was chosen to be on the All-Tournament Team. Ben Fredgant, kneeling in front, is the team's coach. Congratulations, men.

      Students in Calabasas and Los Angeles wrote checks to various charity organizations and received a visit from a special guest June 11 as part of a philanthropic program started by a California Lutheran University professor and his wife.

CLU students receive Fellowships
Science and technology will be focus
      Students at California Lutheran University were awarded Swenson Summer Fellowships, allowing them to complete research projects focusing on various topics in science and technology. The 11 students were selected by a committee comprised of CLU science faculty members.

Locals heading to military academies
      Young people from several area schools have been accepted to U.S. military academies. Nominees were interviewed by a board in December at an all-day Saturday event and recommendations were made through the competitive nomination process.
