Benkert, Maddox honored by V.C. Sports Hall of Fame

Westlake High head football coach Jim Benkert was one of five inductees into the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame during an awards dinner Sunday night at the Ventura Beach Marriott.

"As a coach you get a lot of credit because of the kids' and assistants' hard work," he later said. "I wish they could have all been on the podium with me."

Ned Mircetic, Michelle Palmisano, Troy John Kutetich and Larry Baratte were also enshrined.

Kareem Maddox of Oak Park was the boys' Athlete of the Year.
