More thoughts about Kanan

For Mother's Day, my wife wanted me to write a letter to The Acorn on behalf of all her friends who think that the new Kanan exchange is a travesty. Evan Bachner (May 10) beat me to the punch. He outlined everything that is wrong with the interchange and articulated perfect solutions. Now that is refreshing- someone who complains and provides viable alternatives.

I, too, applaud the speed at which this project was completed, if you do not count the 10 years it took to get to the starting line, but is it the right solution? I had mentioned in an earlier letter that a civil engineer friend of mine pointed to the Valley Circle interchange as a study in what went wrong. I am not sure that the designers of the Kanan project studied Valley Circle much. He also told me that when you see permanent red pylons go up, that is a breakdown in design. I wonder how long it will be until we see those on the Kanan overpass?

Please remove the bike lane from where it is, and also remove the crosswalk that goes across the eastbound 101 cloverleaf onramp from the west side of the overpass (southbound Kanan) before someone gets injured.

Also, please make that onramp a permanent right green arrow to allow better flow onto that ramp. Why is there only one lane on that cloverleaf onramp? Parkway Calabasas, Lindero and Westlake cloverleaf onramps all have two lanes, and there surely is room for two lanes on the Kanan 101 eastbound cloverleaf onramp.
