Synagogue to celebrate Shavuot

Temple Beth Haverim will usher in the Festival of Shavuot (Feast of Weeks or Pentecost) with "Tikkun Layl Shavuot" at 6:30 p.m. Tues., May 22 at the home of Rabbi Gershon and Sheva Weissman.

The festival celebrates the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai and is also called "Yom Habikkurim," the day of the first fruits and harvest.

The "Tikkun Layl Shavuot" celebration will begin with a brief service, a dairy meal and then a study session. Cost is $15 per person. RSVP to the Temple office at (818) 991-7111. Space is limited.

On Wed., May 23 at 9:30 a.m. to noon, Rabbi Weissman and Cantor Kenny Ellis will lead a service for the first day of Shavuot at the temple.

On Thurs., May 24 at 9:30 a.m. to noon, a service for the second day of Shavuot will be held at the temple and will include a Yizkor memorial service.
