Will prom be a night you can't remember?

      Seniors in high school still plan and enthusiastically honor the tradition of prom with handsome couple pictures and specially designed boutonnieres. But while today's fast-lane generation rents Hummer limos and drive their own vehicles on this special night, students need to still celebrate "a night to remember" and not turn it into "a night you can't remember.

Local student accepted, will attend West Point
      Calabasas resident Ian McCaffrey Lenny, 18, has been accepted for admission to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Lenny is a 2006 graduate of Crespi Carmelite High School, Encino, and also attended Lupin Hill Elementary School and A.E. Wright Middle School.

      The Ventura County Writers Club announced the winners of its inaugural poetry contest. Unpublished poets: First place, Melissa Grossman, "8th Birthday"; second place, Danielle Brown, "Joy in the Morning"; third place, Paul Westefer, "Battles." Honorable mentions went to Melissa Grossman, Danielle Brown and Helen Stockdale.

To bridge the gap between parents and school administrators, the law office of Newman, Aaronson& Vanaman will conduct an open forum for parents on how to obtain school services for special education students.

National Merit Scholars named
      The names of some of the high school seniors who've won National Merit $2,500 Scholarships were announced by officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation. These Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of approximately 15,000 finalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Conejo students shine at county science fair
      Students from Conejo Valley schools dominated the 53rd annual Ventura County Science Fair, held April 17 to 19 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura. La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks tied with Ventura High for most first-place projects in the Senior Division with four, and area intermediate school students winning 10 of 12 Junior Division categories.
