Residents carry chip when it comes to woodcarver
      A giraffe, elephant, eagle, bear and gorilla are causing a stir on Westlake Lake in Westlake Village. The animals are part of a onepiece whimsical sculpture created from the remains of a large dead pine tree in the backyard of a home overlooking the lake owned by Gary Oppenheimer.

President shows support for boy's cancer fight
      A 10-year-old boy from Calabasas had the playdate of his young life earlier this month, eating pizza on Air Force One and getting some words of encouragement from Presi dent Bush. Kevin Cordasco recently wrote a letter to the president about his fight against neuroblastoma, a solid tumor cancer which travels through the s y m p a t h e t i c nervous system.

Fundraiser revs up at Sumac school
     ONE HOT CHOPPER- This custom-built motorcycle will be auctioned off at the Sumac Elementary School fundraiser on April 28 at the Malibou Lake Mountain Club, 20933 Lake Vista Drive in Agoura Hills. The chopper was designed by Sumac parent and local businessman Vince DeFalco of Picture City Cycles and is valued at more than $32,000. Hollywood producer speaks about wartime experiences
      It wasn't easy for movie executive Meyer Gottlieb to address the congregation at Temple Beth Haverim in Agoura Hills last Friday, April 13. It was the first time he had talked to an audience about his wartime experiences. A Holocaust survivor, Gottlieb, 67, spoke in commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day, marked worldwide on Sun. April 15.

Disney donates to club
      In celebration of National Boys & Girls Clubs Week, the Walt Disney Company donated $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley and an identical amount to the other 43 Boys & Girls Clubs in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Each of the 44 clubs also received 50 complimentary admission tickets to Disneyland.

Viewpoint students visit Germany
      During their spring break, 28 students of Viewpoint School in Calabasas and their chaperones toured Germany. The highlight of the trip, according to headmaster Robert Dworkoski, one of the chaperones, was a visit with the Chancellor of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel, in her office in Berlin.
