Eagles pushing for CIF status With a 90 record and an average winning score of 13-3, the lacrosse club at Oak Park High may have its biggest battle this season off the field. The Oak Park team is currently a part of the Southern California Lacrosse Association, but isn't affiliated with the CIF or Oak Park High School. Oak Park lacrosse general manager Drew Bennett is hoping that the team's CIF status could change in the near future. According to Bennett, the team hasn't been granted CIF status in the past because of issues concerning money, facilities, coaches, a feeder program (youth leagues) and other teams to play. Bennett believes the Eagle team has proven to have more than enough of everything previously mentioned. "Right now we are waiting to hear back from the school board on a mechanism of how they want the whole funding process to occur," Bennett said. "It's on their table now. We're ready to go, and we're ready to hand over the funding to the school for the next five years lock, stock and barrel." - Thomas Gase |
