Watching out for man's best friend First, I had to write to praise the young man, Josh Houserman, from Agoura Hills, for his insightful letter he wrote last week concerning the recent trend of auctioning off puppies to raise money. Josh is so right about finding "forever homes" for these pups and not having one go to the highest bidder. He made good points with kindness and compassion for his school's good intentions. Adults can learn a lesson from this illumined young man. Way to go, Josh. I also need to make a point for animals. Every summer, I see runners jogging the hot black pavement at high noon while a panting Fido, with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, does his very best to keep up. The asphalt is 10 times hotter than white concrete. Try just standing in bare feet on the street and see what it could be like for your pet to do it for an hour- in a fur coat, no less. While it's great to take your dog out for a walk or jog- so many dogs live their lives out in a backyard and never get more than a walk to the corner- please be conscious and aware and check the weather conditions for your dog. Thanks again, Acorn, for being a great community paper. Craige Story Westlake Village |
