First, I had to write to praise the young man, Josh Houserman, from Agoura Hills, for his insightful letter he wrote last week concerning the recent trend of auctioning off puppies to raise money. Josh is so right about finding "forever homes" for these pups and not having one go to the highest bidder. More ... Anyone who lives in north Agoura Hills or Oak Park can attest to how dangerous it has become to turn left onto Kanan Road from any of the driveways out of the two shopping strips north of Thousand Oaks Boulevard. From Carl's Jr. To Yum Yum Donuts to Agoura Deli, it has become an unnerving experience to get home. More ... A little over a year ago, we decided to bring Soap Box Derby to life for the first time in Westlake Village. After a lot of hard work, the kids in the Triunfo YMCA Trailblazer program (Indian Guides for third to sixth graders) got to race down the track this past Sunday. Nearly 80 kids raced, with a heat taking place about every two minutes for three hours. More ... In response to Toby Keeler's letter of April 5, I am writing this not as a member of a mysterious Calabasas political "insiders club" to which he refers, but as a resident who does their homework and research before casting a vote in any election. More ... In response to Nancy Goldsen's April 5 letter where it was said, "Freedom without rules is anarchy," rules are fine except when they categorically state that children are not permitted to play outside their own homes. The interaction with childhood friends helps set a course for a child's development and social skills in later life. More ... As the show began, I felt like I was at the Ahmanson or Shubert the aters- that is how professional the production was. "Hello, Dolly!" was always my favorite musical show. More ... I have some concerns regarding the recent article "Hospital site could become new home for seniors" (March 15). One resident is quoted as concerned that Sunrise would "have a lasting negative effect on the value of the community in that area." I have lived in First Neighborhood for nine years and believe quite the contrary. More ... I read your article ("Historical statue comes with house," April 5) and thought I should comment on a couple of points. One would be the quote "'At the time of the unveiling there were 10 Indians present, including two squaws and a child in full (regalia),' Schneider said. More ... Do you know how the Oak Park Unified School District is wasting money that could be better spend on our children? A glance at the agenda for the upcoming OPUSD board meeting scheduled for April 17 reveals that the district intends to approve "out of country travel" for Superintendent Tony Knight. More ... I'm pleased The Acorn informed its readers about the over 1,000 rallies nationally- one of them at the Thousand Oaks Library at 10 a.m.- to be held this Sat., April 14, urging Congress to take action against global warming. Unfortunately, the article about the rallies concluded with some seriously misleading statements. More ... "Hurry, hurry, hurry!" urged the man with the straw hat and the striped coat. "See Snow White's apple, poisoned with Alar; behold the microscopic asbestos crystals as they destroy human lungs; absorb the cancercausing rays transiting the ozone hole; soak yourself in acid rain; walk through the radon exposure tunnel; peer into the depths of the China Syndrome; see the historic warnings of More ...
