New Oak Park RV rules take effect
Oak Park's recreational and oversized-vehicle owners now have tougher parking rules to follow. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has approved amendments recommended by the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) that strengthen the original ordinance passed in 2001. Under the new guidelines, recreational and oversized vehicles cannot be parked on public streets. Violators will be fined $30 per day. Exceptions to the rule include: RV owners preparing or recovering from a trip may park their vehicles for up to 72 hours; vehicles under repair may be parked up to 72 hours; trucks making deliveries or picking up items and work vehicles may be parked directly in front of an owner's home. One-year permit applications are available through Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks' office and will be reviewed by the MAC. The ordinance describes oversized vehicles as those more than 25 feet long and/or 80 inches in width or 82 inches in height. The revised ordinance is the result of a review conducted by a committee of residents led by MAC member Jay Kapitz. In October, the Oak Park MAC voted to support the revision. The Board of Supervisors voted on the amendment in February. Residents may call the California Highway Patrol at (805) 5530800 to report violations. |
