Walk tall, walk for MS
I am a 37-year-old Oak Park resident living with MS since December 1999. MS has also tragically taken the life of my father, Alan Portnoy, of Westlake Village this past January 23. He was diagnosed in May 2000; he was 63.

The right to 'rock the boat'
On Feb. 22 I was proud to swear the Oath of Allegiance and become an American citizen. To do this I had to take a civics test. I know how many stars and stripes there are on the flag and what they symbolize. I was in awe of the Constitution and the rights conferred to me in this land I call "home." I was amazed by the concept of "checks and balances.

Defends Calabasas City Council
In a March 22 letter to The Acorn, Donn Burkholder criticizes our City Council members for ostensibly working against the interests of residents on the west side of Calabasas. He claims our City Council "completely ignores the concerns" of west side residents, fails to protect open space and furthers only the interests of those who live on the east side of town.

'Acorn' should stay out of politics
I love your newspaper and read it regularly, but what's with the constant rightwing haranguing in the editorial cartoon of the opinion section? It seems only Democrats get criticized. I liked it a lot better when the cartoon dealt primarily with local concerns.

Good question

My brother Austin, 6, and I go to Willow Elementary School, and when we go on field trips we don't have seat belts on the bus. The driver has a seat belt for safety. My brother and I feel that everyone on the bus should be safe.

Longing for Lowe's
The Lowe's project was recently defeated primarily with the idea that Westlake is just a village and such a project was beyond the pale. When we end up with more office buildings people will long for Lowe's. I'm looking out my window at a mansion of a thousand square feet. I, in my condo, feel like one of its outbuildings.

Eruv was good foJewish communit
I have read the article in The Acorn about the eruv, and I am very displeased about what has happened. The eruv is a wire going around the communities of Oak Park and Agoura. This wire is to enclose the community so that you could carry or do other daily activities within the eruv.

Support injured motorcycle cop
Two weeks ago, Dep. Mike Ranes, one of our Lost Hills motor deputies, in pursuit of a speeding car, collided with a woman who pulled out in front of his motorcycle. Dep. Ranes sustained nearly a dozen broken bones, a bleeding spleen and fractured a bone in his face.

Sunrise for seniors is no Costco
In the article "Hospital site could become new home for seniors" on March 15, the comparison between the proposed Sunrise facility and two Costco stores is inappropriate. The different natures of the Sunrise Senior Living fullservice retirement community and a Costco makes this an inflammatory comparison.
