Notice any improvements to the Kanan Road interchange?

A new looping southbound onramp opened last week, bringing to an end decades of frustrating left turns onto the freeway that snarled traffic and caused lengthy delays on the overpass bridge.

A new southbound onramp for motorists heading northbound on Kanan Road also has opened. The two loop ramps are the centerpiece of the $25-million project.

City officials expect the new interchange configuration to alleviate congestion by allowing right-hand turns only onto the north- and southbound freeway.

Businesses along Kanan Road and Roadside Drive will remain open normal business hours during construction.

In the midst of the 101 Freeway/Kanan Interchange project, Caltrans is working on the freeway's median from the Chesebro Road exit to Thousand Oaks.

According to city spokesperson Louis Celaya, the work in the center median consists of changing the drainage system and replacing the concrete barrier. Security Paving was awarded the median project. A time frame for completion of the work hasn't been released.
