I am writing this letter because my sister and I were heartbroken to see a "For sale 193 acres" sign go up on that beautiful open land adjoining the 101 Freeway at the Las Virgenes on-ramp. For nearly our whole lives we have seen horses grazing on that land. We always look for deer on our way to school. We even see coyotes roaming free across the hills. More ... Not only does the Community Foundation support Oak Park schools, but that support is significant. At the Feb. 20 Oak Park School Board meeting, I presented a log of Community Foundation grants for 2006. We issued over $154,000 in grants last year, with more than $149,000 going to Oak Park schools and their students. More ... The Iraq war is about differences in ideology, not oil. The silence of the Islamic community against the slaughter of innocent human beings around the globe is deafening. Is it because the Koran states everyone not believing as they do are infidels to be put to death, tolerated or subjugated? More ... I read with sadness that Sunny Skies Camp is losing its home. It would be a tragedy if our community lost this camp. My children have so many special memories from spending their summers there. More ... I want to thank all of those who have expressed their good wishes about Sunny Skies Day Camp. With over 350 campers already enrolled for 2007, we are looking forward to another wonderful summer at our home of the last 32 years. More ... I would like to add a few thoughts to Laila Biscaldi's very kind words about me. Dan Crisafulli's comparison between Agoura Village and the Heschel West project ignores virtually every salient fact to be reckoned. Agoura Village will benefit the entire citizenry of Agoura Hills, versus Heschel, which will serve only a select few. More ... There are many loose dogs walking off the leash near where I live in Morrison Ranch Estates and on main streets in Agoura as well. They can easily be hit by a car. Prior to moving to Agoura Hills last summer, I lived in Woodland Hills north of Ventura Boulevard and there was a large coyote in my backyard at 10 a.m. Fortunately when I called my dog in she came right away. More ... A couple of weeks ago, I read in The Acor n that the city of Calabasas plans to ban Styrofoam packing. As we all know, these are the same folks who banned smoking. More ... The Agoura Hills City Council had planned to construct three tennis courts without lights, restrooms and basketball courts with poured concrete over the majority of the grassy area in Morrison Park. Despite our opposite positions, I had the pleasure of working with the City Council and the city staff to find other alternatives for use of the money. More ... The city of Agoura Hills wants to lend a financial hand to local social and cultural organizations through its Community Outreach Grant Program. A minimum of $250 will be given to qualifying organizations. The City Council is expected to disperse up to $23,000 in total grant money, said Nathan Hamburger, assistant to the city manager.
