Heschel school brings out clash of personalities
Mr. Crisafulli, I am sorry the issue of Agoura Village was not resolved to your satisfaction. But to attack two people and an entire community because of it is like the pot calling the kettle black. I don't know Mr. Casey, but I have been acquainted with Larry Brown and some of his family for many years. More ...
Why were Shea homes built in a Calabasas scenic corridor?
The 48-home Shea Homes development on Las Virgenes a block south of the freeway has become an issue in the Calabasas City Council election and a symbol of the fears we have that Calabasas will become another San Fernando Valley. As chairman of the planning commission at the time we approved this development, I know the limitations we were operating under. More ...
Bring back the incumbents
Our present council, including members Barry Groveman and Dennis Washburn, has effectively led our city for the past four years. Incumbents Groveman and Washburn spearheaded the effort for measure D which preserved open space forever, have supported our school district, moved the Civic Center project forward and created a positive working relationship with city employees. More ...
Theater has become an election issue
One of the challengers in the upcoming Calabasas City Council election, Toby Keeler, claims to want to bring sound fiscal management to the city. But Mr. Keeler has for the last several years been advocating that the city should spend $10 million or more to build a community theater. More ...
Council member supports colleagues
I care very deeply about the city of Calabasas. That is why I think the upcoming City Council election is so important. Two of my colleagues, Mayor Dennis Washburn and Councilmember Barry Groveman are running for reelection. Why should you and I vote for them? More ...
Teachers like the status quo
While the Las Virgenes Educator's Association, by policy and practice, does not endorse candidates for City Council seats, we as individuals wish to make a strong endorsement for the reelection of Barry Groveman for Calabasas City Council. Barry has shown an ability to be an activist, a progressive thinker and a dynamic leader. Where many politicians talk, he acts. More ...
School board member supports Groveman and Washburn
As a member of the Las Virgenes School Board for just over a year, and an active participant in the support of education in our area for many years prior, I feel it is important to note the incredible level of focus on our schools I have seen exhibited during this time by Calabasas City Councilmembers Dennis Washburn and Barry Groveman. More ...
Candidates have helped schools
Please join me in my efforts to keep our local public schools strong by reelecting Barry Groveman and Dennis Washburn to the Calabasas City Council. Over the years, I have worked with Mr. Groveman and Mr. Washburn on a number of school issues ranging from school traffic safety to cooperative jointuse agreements between our facilities and the city's parks and recreation programs. More ...
The 'education' candidates
Please join me in voting for Barry Groveman for reelection to the Calabasas City Council on March 6. During my five years on the LVUSD Board of Education, I have worked with Barry on countless issues directly affecting the students in our district. Barry supports our public schools. He is responsible, openminded and action-oriented. This man gets things done. More ...
Incumbents favored
I support the reelection of Barry Groveman and Dennis Washburn to the Calabasas City Council. Both men have strongly supported our public schools with hard work and funding support in critical areas. Dennis and Barry listen well to concerns and act based on the needs of Calabasas. More ...
Groveman won't rest on his laurels
I have been a proud resident of Calabasas for almost six years. We are fortunate to live in a city known for quality education, safety and support of the environment. Our reputation and record could not exist without the accomplishments of Barry Groveman who is running a reelection campaign for City Council. More ...
Council consensus
Calabasas is now considered one of the finest and well-run cities in California because of its environmental leadership and protection of open space, its strong support of both public and private educational institutions, and its commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy place to live. More ...
Environment is important to Barry Groveman
Please join me in supporting Barry Groveman for the Calabasas City Council. As a resident of Calabasas since 1987 and currently serving as an environmental commissioner for the city of Calabasas, now is the time to ensure that we have a council member who will continue the stewardship of our environment. More ...
Incumbents keep home prices high
I hope Calabasas voters read last week's Acorn article about home prices in the region. Calabasas' median home price gained 8 percent while home values in surrounding communities dropped. I'm voting for Mayor Dennis Washburn and Councilmember Barry Groveman because their contributions continue to make Calabasas a highly desirable place to live. More ...
Special interests swayed Groveman
I am one of the former supporters of Barry Groveman who has become disillusioned with him and hope he will not win another term on the Calabasas City Council. I'm a professor of environmental law, so I quizzed this ambitious "environmental attorney," who talks a good environmental line, closely four years ago. More ...
Reelection is right
Mayor Dennis Washburn and former Mayor Barry Groveman deserve our support at the polls March 5. The front page Acorn story from Feb. 15 about our housing market in Calabasas tells a story of success. It says our median home prices have increased 8 percent in the last year while other nearby cities have seen a drop. More ...
Impressed by the two challengers
I am 19 years old and this is the first time I am voting for City Council. I have seen many changes during my last four years at Calabasas High, where I experienced the overcrowding in my school, traffic congestion and loss of habitat due to overwhelming construction and development. More ...
Keeler will protect our open spaces
We all know how heavily congested the traffic in Calabasas has become, especially at our main crossroads between 4 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Try finding a parking space at The Commons on a weekend--forget it. Yet we continue to see more and more residential and commercial buildings filling in our landscape. More ...
Our way of life is best for Iraq
I wanted to respond to last week's letter by Mark Rackow on the war in Iraq and gas-guzzling SUVs. First I want to say I was greatly offended by the comment that the young man who gave his life in this war gave it for a gas-guzzling SUV. I don't know this young man, but I would have to say that this young man died for a lot more than just a gas-guzzling SUV. More ... Letters RSS feed |
